Wood Chipper Safety Inspection and Maintenance Guide

Wood chippers are high-risk equipment; strict inspection and maintenance are crucial for preventing accidents and ensuring efficiency.

I. Pre-Operation Inspection (Core: Safety and Condition)

Safety Preparation: Wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, gloves, and earplugs. Ensure all safety guards (especially at the feed and discharge openings) are intact and securely installed.

Equipment Condition: Check that the blades or hammers are sharp, free from severe wear or cracks, and that all bolts are tightened. Check that the belt tension is appropriate. Clean any debris from inside and outside the machine.

II. In-Operation Monitoring (Core: Standards and Vigilance)

Standard Operation: After starting, let the machine run idle for a short time to confirm smooth operation without unusual noises. Feed material evenly, strictly prohibiting the introduction of metal, stones, or other foreign objects. Keep hands away from the feed opening.

Handling Abnormalities: Pay constant attention to the machine’s sound and vibration. In case of abnormal blockage, immediately stop the machine and completely shut off the power before clearing the blockage.

III. Post-Operation Maintenance (Core: Cleaning and Maintenance)

Cleaning and Inspection: After operation, once all parts have completely stopped, clean any remaining debris from inside and outside the machine. Pay particular attention to blade wear and mark blades for replacement if necessary.

Lubrication and Maintenance: Lubricate designated bearings and other lubrication points according to the manual. Record the operating time and any problems encountered.
